The Sooners landed their 20th commitment of the 2024 cycle in three-star ATH Andy Bass. Bass is from Oklahoma City and plays his high school football at Heritage Hall. In the 247sports rankings, Bass is listed as the #11 player in the state of Oklahoma. Bass chose Oklahoma over Syracuse, Kansas State, and others. He will be a wild card for the Sooners, but will primarily be in the running back room under DeMarco Murray.

What was it that made Bass choose Oklahoma? He said, “Why not choose Oklahoma? The fanbase, family, facilities, coaches, team, talent… the list never ends. It was something I couldn’t turn down.” He talked about his relationship with Oklahoma’s running backs Coach, DeMarco Murray saying, “Coach Murray has been great to develop a relationship with since I was at camp on June 13th. He’s a great person to be around and I know he will push me to be the best possible player I can be. I couldn’t be more excited to be around him and be coached by him every day.”

For Heritage Hall, Andy Bass plays quarterback and posted 3,762 total yards, 2,760 were passing yards, and he rushed for the other 1,002. Bass totaled 42 touchdowns on the season last year. He is a true Swiss army knife, however, for the Sooners, he will primarily operate out of the running back room. Three weeks ago, he told the Crimson Captain Oklahoma’s plan for him saying, “In the running back room, kind of learning from DeMarco and stuff, they also mentioned split me out wide kind of trying to get me one-on-one with linebackers and stuff. I'd be running between the tackles too, but I'd also be split out wide and Coach Lebby mentioned playing some quarterback inside the goal line, kind of having my own package.”

Asked when he realized Oklahoma was the place he wanted to commit to, Bass said, “I’ve grown up going to OU games and being around OU fans, so it’s always been something I’ve thought about. After I got to be around the coaches and hear their vision and plan for not just myself, but the future of OU football, it was something that got me super excited.”

Bass will open his Senior season at Heritage Hall next Thursday against Millwood. A few weeks ago he spoke about what he was looking to improve on in his Senior year saying, “I'll be running track this spring, so just kind of continuing to get faster and I think that'll really help me just having the edge, if you're faster than other guys, it doesn't really matter what they can do if you can just outrun them. So that, and just keep getting in the weight room, getting stronger, kind of understanding defenses a little better. That's definitely something I'm gonna work on my senior year, just kind of preparing each game and getting to see what the defense tendencies are and stuff like that.”

Bass was asked what made him the most excited about being a Sooner, he said, “Playing in the palace is an experience like no other, so I have to go with that. The fanbase is really the foundation of the OU football program.” He shared a message for all of the Oklahoma fans saying, “Boomer sooner! I can’t wait to get to work and be a part of the best program in college football.”
