Our resident film junkie Daniel walks us through what makes David Stone special as a player and what OU fans can look forward to seeing on Owen Field for the next few seasons.
One of the harder evaluations I’ve undertaken, and not because it’s trying to find redeeming qualities, but because Stone is one of the most versatile and physically talented DL prospects in a very long time.
With a 7 foot wing span on a compact frame, David can and does win with length, a second to none amongst his peers get off, and extremely aggressive hands.
He can comfortably move along the line at multiple techniques and has tools and physical traits to handle all of them. Adept at pressing the blocker and shucking/filling gaps to compliment his multifaceted pass rush move set.
Displays everything from a double swipe to a push and pull and swim move, often in the same play. Retraces steps well screen game and takes good angles in pursuit. A true blue chip prospect with first round potential, if he is able to adjust to SEC game speed it’s hard to see a scenario where he doesn’t see playing time even as a freshman, as he has far too many tools and too much ability to keep him off the field. The sky is the limit for Stone.
