Defensive Staff Changes

Ted Roof retiring has been rumored for the better part of a full year, and with his contract ending on January 1st of 2024 a source we've spoken with says it would be a surprise if Roof is an on-field coach next season.

Venables was the DC for all intents and purposes the DC since the middle of the 2022 season, and the staff have had internal discussions about Venables taking on less responsibility on defense and act as more of a CEO of the program.

Continuity being the buzzword of the day, the expectation among the sources we've spoken with about this dating back to January is that Brandon Hall would be elevated to DC. Outside candidates will be considered for the LB coach position but we've been told current GA James Skalski will get a serious look for that role as well.

While Roof's retirement hasn't been confirmed and isn't a certainty, we get the sense from talking with multiple sources that there are subtle things in motion behind the scenes that point that direction.

We'll continue to monitor and report back as the story develops.

Hopefully BV reaches out to Odam or Cain first but I would imagine Skalski gets the call.

I’m a HUGE fan of Skalski. Have been since college. I would love him to be the new LB coach!
