Brent Venables expressed optimism during his weekly press conference that Dillon Gabriel, Jalil Farooq and Gentry Williams would play on Friday against TCU.
Regarding Gabriel, a source we spoke with on Sunday afternoon and again on Monday stressed that there's still a ways to go before Dillon is cleared and describing his status as "on track to start is premature. We'll see how things progress through the week.
Gabriel will go through the standard protocol this week, but as a source put it earlier this evening "this being a repeat issue will prompt additional caution, and the short week presents some challenges to getting cleared."
The OU medical staff is typically very careful with head injuries, as seen with Tyler Guyton and Savion Byrd both being out multiple weeks with concussion issues.
Gentry Williams was close to returning against BYU and technically could have played, but there is some internal debate among the staff about whether or not to shut down Williams for the year. There are some lingering issues that will have to be addressed in the offseason.
